Gmod Inter Chat aims to enhance Garry's Mod by enabling seamless cross-server and single-player communication, while its DLCs offer advanced features for the base addon featuring media content, shared player positions and Lua scripts.
Gmod Inter Chat represents a significant advancement in communication within Garry’s Mod, allowing users to engage in conversations across different servers and single-player environments. Our goal with this addon is to foster a more interconnected and interactive community by enabling players to communicate regardless of their current in-game situation. Unlike many similar tools, Gmod Inter Chat functions without the need for Chromium, ensuring accessibility for a wider range of users. We aim to enrich the player experience by facilitating spontaneous and enjoyable interactions among players throughout the Garry’s Mod universe. To maintain a constructive environment, we have established guidelines to prevent misuse—messages are moderated, and violations such as spamming or inappropriate content may result in temporary or permanent bans. Users can customize their experience with features that include setting email signatures, querying player information, and managing various aspects of the chat through console commands.
The Gmod Inter Chat Shared Position DLC further enhances our addon by allowing users to see and interact with other players who have the DLC installed, provided they are on the same map. This feature aims to improve the sense of presence and collaboration by enabling users to view and engage with each other in environments such as gm_flatgrass. The DLC supports activities such as cooperative building and limited PvP combat and includes options for viewing player information, basic animations, and player models. Commands for toggling PvP and managing workshop playermodels, along with options for smoothing props on community maps, are designed to enrich the shared experience.
The Gmod Inter Chat Media DLC extends the capabilities of our core addon by enabling the direct viewing of various media types from URLs shared in the chat. This includes formats such as mp3, mp4, mov, and YouTube videos. Although the feature operates without Chromium, we recommend its installation to enhance media compatibility. This DLC includes commands to enable or disable media functionality and provides warnings before opening links to ensure user safety and control.
Finally, the Gmod Inter Chat Share Center DLC introduces a platform for sharing and downloading Lua scripts within Garry’s Mod. Modeled on the Toybox concept, this DLC facilitates script management by allowing users to upload, browse, like, and download Lua code shared by others. It offers functionalities for script interaction, including obtaining an API key and managing personal script uploads. Although still in early development, this DLC aims to expand the ways in which users can engage with and contribute to the Garry’s Mod community, with an emphasis on cautious script usage.
